A native of Canton, South Dakota, Dr. Brodland received his medical degree at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine graduating with honors. He received his resident training in Internal Medicine and Dermatology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

In 1990, he completed his Mohs College approved fellowship training in Micrographic Skin Cancer Surgery under the direction of Dr. John Zitelli here in Pittsburgh. Prior to rejoining Dr. Zitelli in 1997, Dr. Brodland was on Faculty at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where he was Associate Professor of Dermatology, Chairman of Education, Director of Residency Program, and Co-director of Dermatologic Surgery and The Mayo Cutaneous Laser Center for 7 years. He continues his involvement in resident education as an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh with teaching appointments in Dermatology, Plastic Surgery and Otolaryngology.

Dr. Brodland has authored over 60 articles and chapters. He has performed over 8500 laser and cosmetic procedures and more than 30,000 Mohs procedures. He is active in many local, state, and national dermatology organizations and holds leadership positions in several dermatology organizations, which include President of the American College of Mohs Surgery. Dr. Brodland has received many honors including The Skin Cancer Foundation Fellowship Award, Appointment as Mayo Foundation Scholar, and the Teacher of the Year Award at the Mayo Clinic. He has been honored by the medical community with election to Pittsburgh Magazine’s “Top Doctors” for the past 7 years in a row.
