Macaione & Papa Dermatology Associates Joins QualDerm’s Growing Network of Quality-focused Practices

Partnership Marks QualDerm’s First in New Jersey

BRENTWOOD, TN (January 28, 2021)

QualDerm Partners, a company that creates market-leading dermatology practice partnerships through affiliations and de novo development, today announced Macaione & Papa Dermatology Associates has joined the company’s network of affiliated physician-owned practices.

Macaione & Papa Dermatology Associates is located in Voorhees, New Jersey, and provides a full range of general, cosmetic and surgical dermatology, including Mohs micrographic skin cancer surgery. The practice was founded more than 40 years ago by Alex Macaione, DO. In 2000, Christine Papa, DO, a Fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, joined the practice. She and Ronald Bernardin, MD, who joined in 2013, currently own the practice.

The practice’s clinical staff includes 6 board certified dermatologists, a certified physician assistant and a certified advanced practice nurse. Patients also have access to 2 Fellowship-trained Mohs surgeons. In addition to Drs. Macaione, Papa, and Bernardin, the physicians on staff are Risa Gorin, DO, Erika Levine, MD, and Lauren Okon, MD.

“QualDerm has a reputation for helping practices grow while maintaining high-quality standards of care,” says Dr. Papa. “We look forward to working together with QualDerm to expand our services to patients throughout South Jersey.”

QualDerm first entered the region in 2018, through a partnership with Pennsylvania-based Zitelli & Brodland, PC. Today, the company’s network includes 50 practice locations and centralized laboratory services across Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and Georgia. QualDerm has plans to expand further in the coming year.

“Managing and growing a medical practice has become increasingly complex,” says Dr. Bernardin. “We chose to partner with QualDerm because of their proven success in helping patient-centric practices like ours meet their goals.”

Physician autonomy and quality are the foundation of QualDerm’s True PartnershipSM model. QualDerm provides practices with management support, capital and guidance for growth. Affiliated practices have access to a highly-experienced team of financial, administrative, IT and HR professionals. Physicians hold leadership roles throughout the QualDerm organization, including on Regional Joint Operating Committees, the corporate board, and the physician-led Quality Council, to ensure business decisions align with what is best for patients.

“Macaione & Papa Dermatology Associates has a long history of providing patients with the highest quality of care,” says Bill Southwick, Chief Executive Officer of QualDerm. “Their practice culture perfectly aligns with QualDerm’s mission. We are excited to help them expand services and patient access to care.”
